Looking after your trees

Mulching trees is one of the best tools in an arboriculturalist's arsenal to improve tree health.

What mulch to use to address nutrient deficiencies, how to mulch to not shock a tree with a change in soil chemistry, and how best to mulch to reduce compaction without damaging the existing root structure: this is where our expertise comes into play.

We use a penetrometer to understand the compaction and soil health around your trees.

We don't offer an airspading service as this almost always does more harm than good, significantly damaging the fine root structure of trees where the absorbtion of water and minerals takes place.

There is no panacea, no magic supplement that will solve a trees problems. But there are some interventions that can be made.

Individual deficiences in nutrients can be addressed through fertilisers and supplements added to mulch or the soil around trees. Deficiences can be detected through chlorophyll meters and soil testing.
 

 There are thousands of species of Mycorrhizal fungi, however only a some are symbiotic with trees, and only specific fungi are symbiotic with specific trees. Broad brush 'mycorrhizal supplements' are a waste of time. Introducing a specific mycorrizha symbiotic to a specific tree species can benefit it by increasing the root system's ability to increase absorbtion of key minerals,  and potentially outcompeting parasitic and harmful fungi.

We are happy to discuss these interventions, but we will only recommend them when there's genuine a possibility it will be of benefit.

We can take samples from diseased or sick trees and have them analysed to confirm a variety of pathogens / fungi.
